I - Space: The Latest Classic Reggae Album From Sizzla

Sizzla Kalonji has further solidified his rightfully earned place as the undisputed King Of Reggae with the release of this latest, bonafide classic roots reggae album of the grandest proportions.

Sizzla is here to stay and 'I - Space' is indisputable evidence of Sizzla's staying power as the preeminent reggae musician on the world reggae scene that he has dominated for the past 10 years.

'I - Space' opens up with the track 'Really & Truly' which is a firm declaration by Sizzla of the omnipotence and omnipresence of Emperor Haile Selassie I. This powerful endorsement of Rastafari is sung over The Wailers' 'Natural Mystic' riddim, which in of itself is a subtle message to the fans that Sizzla has long taken up the torch that was carried by The Wailers and has been running with it, fast, firm, steady and for the distance like a marathon winning Kenyan running African; an authentic natural mystic who may very likely be the last trumpet in these trying times.

The second track on the album, 'Irresistible' keeps up the rooted flavour of the 'I - Space' that is introduced to the listener's palate with 'Really & Truly'. With this track, Dada directs his musical affection toward all of the heartical and beautiful ladies. Many of you may be familiar with this track already as it has been creating quite a buzz in Jamaica right now on the local radio stations.

Sizzla takes his affectionate display for the ital ladies up a notch with 'Make Me Yours' an iritical tune voiced on a modern re-make of  Bob Andy's Studio 1 classic, 'How Do You Feel.'

'Talking About', which is track #7 on 'I - Space' should be very familiar to listeners of this joyous album as it was a tune voiced on a riddim that the great Lincoln Sugar Minott made famous with his hit tune from yesteryear, 'Mr. DC'. It was later popularised on a larger scale and made more current when Sizzla himself joined Sugar Minott on the riddim not so long ago and blessed up the track with some big herbalist verses and vibes.

'Stop The Violence', 'Only Jah Alone', 'Woman In My Life', 'Be Careful' and 'Jah Protect My Life' are simply more blissful and sweet redemption for even the strictest and most discerning listeners of true roots reggae music.

Sizzla has established a new standard for himself and reggae musicians and artistes on a whole who sing and deejay reggae music. Once again, the king has outdone himself on yet another occasion and topped if not equally matched great previous albums like 'Black Woman & Child' and 'Da Real Thing'.

People said it could not be done but if they have not learned by now, when you underestimate an artiste of Sizzla's extremely rare calibre you will surely be in for a surprise.

There is just simply no denying hard-hitting cuts like 'Show Some Love', which is a direct musical reference to Nyahbinghi, the foundation of reggae music, and foundation rasta artistes like Count Ossie and Ras Michael and The Sons Of Negus.

A change of musical pace on the album lies in the acoustic guitar based track, 'Put The People's Interest First', which is highly reminiscent of 'I Was Born', from the 'Rise To The Occasion' album. 'Put The People's Interest First' has some guitar riffs that give it a very spicy, Spanish sounding flavour, but a very well-put together track nonetheless.

It is plainly obvious to a trained reggae musical ear that Sizzla's method, pattern, voice control, and vocal range has improved considerably since his earlier classic reggae albums were recorded. In other words, Sizzla is like a blessed tree in earth that is still budding and maturing, growing more bountiful everyday.

With the exception of 'Talking About' and 'None Shall Escape Judgement', this album is totally fresh and new like a spring's morning dew. 'I - Space' will prove to be an absolute delight for reggae fans, and more importantly, it is righteous vindication for all of the true Sizzla fans who always knew in the bottom of their hearts that the best of Sizzla was still yet to come regardless of what the critics wanted to say.
